English 152 - Writing About Film
While watching films, viewers often only notice
the narrative elements of film, yet ignore camera
work, editing, and various other aspects of
filmmaking.  Yet it is these invisible elements that
reinforce and contribute to the film’s meaning as
a whole.  Learning to focus on these aspects of a
film will strengthen a student’s analytical skills
and enhance the depth of their writing about film
as an art form.
Just as students must learn the elements of
fiction, drama, poetry, and various other genres
of literature, the elements of film allow for a
deeper appreciation and understanding of the
topic.  By focusing on these aspects in their
writing, students will see not just their critical
thinking improve, but also the level of their
analytical writing.
This course aims to increase the student’s
ability to write well and to challenge them to
become even better writers.
